New River fishing trip WV huge smallmouth bass

The Smallmouth are being caught on tubes, grubs and flukes. Darker colors seems to be working best. We are fishing All three rivers on regular bases: The New, the Gauley and the Greenbrier. The rain is keeping us moving. Our fishing trips are averaging 30 fish a day on the Gauley and Greenbrier rivers. When fishing the New we are catching 50 a day on average. We have had a few 100 fish days even in murky, dirty water and have landed several 18 and 20 inch fish. The water is dropping and should cotinue to do so. Trout are being caught on our walk and wade trips on the Gauley river and small streams. We have had luck on spinners on the river and live bait in the small streams. The weather is looking good. Although the weather has been wet and cool, the fish are getting busy. We are starting to catch fish in the 24 inch range regularly. The water temp was 50 degrees today. On a recent half day New River Fishing Trip, we caught over a dozen fish using crank baits, stick baits as jerk baits and some plastic. The best fish was 18 inches and caught on a live minnow. The water is at stable levels and at an ideal temperature for a fishing trip. Trout are being caught on small streams on live bait, small jigs, and Mepps spinners. The Gauley river is warming up and trout should be feeding. Also, the Army Corps of Engineers will be holding back water to fill the lake over the first few weeks of April, so the river will be at a very consistent level and great for a trout fishing trip. Turkeys are being seen regularlary and starting to get defesive towards other gobblers. Spring fishing season is best in April. Don't miss the boat! If you have any questions, drop us a line.
